EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP)—Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour became the Mid-American Conference’s all-time leader in total offense and led the Chippewas to a stunning, come-from-behind 29-27 win over Michigan State on Saturday.
Andrew Aguila made a 42-yard field goal for the Chippewas (1-1) with 3 seconds to play for the winning points.
LeFevour threw an 11-yard TD pass to Paris Cotton with 32 seconds left to pull Central within 27-26. On the 2-point attempt, Antonio Jones caught LeFevour’s high-arching pass, but he was out of the end zone.
The Chippewas then recovered an onside kick and drove into position for a 47-yard field goal, which Aguila missed.
But Michigan State (1-1) was whistled for offsides, giving Aguila another chance.
LeFevour, a senior, passed Byron Leftwich’s record of 12,084 yards during the game
